A Summer in a Day and the devastating article of Phoebe Prince’s death has several connections. In both cases, the
student was continuously bullied even to a point where they were locked into a
closet. Margot and Phoebe have been made fun of and teased and had a miserable
life. In addition, Phoebe had believed that one day the bullying would stop,
however it never did. Phoebe decided that she couldn’t take anymore and sadly,
committed suicide. On the other hand,  Margot has lost the chance to see the
sun that only appears every seven years. The two stories are also related
because the teacher’s in the school did nothing to stop the bullying and teasing
even if they could.

Text to Text

For the text to text connection I can connect All Summer in a Day and the novel Ender’s Game.  Both stories are set in the future where they live in space. The kids go to school and have almost no memories about Earth.  In the book ender’s Game the school teaches about Buggar’s who aliens that try to invade their planet. In all summer in a day Margot, the main character are taught not much about the past on earth, but the teacher allows them to learn about the Sun. These two stories connect because they are both set in the future at outer space where kids go to school.

Text to world

Margot has gotten bullied by other kids because she was different. Margot knew how the sun looked and felt and the other kids disagreed. The article of Jaheem Herrera’s death is about a young eleven year old boy who has been called gay, and a virgin because his mother came from the virgin islands. The little boy has only wanted to get good grades and have a normal life. He was bullied every day and when he told his mom she only believed that it was just little kids playing around and never realized how far it went.  The day of his death, he came home and showed his mom his report card which was full of A’s and B’s. When dinner was ready his mom went up to his room and found him hanging in his closet. This article relates to the story All Summer in a Day because all Margot has wanted was to see the sun and not get teased. She has also been locked into a closet by her classmates.

Text to Self
Kids and teenagers are bullied all around  the world. There is no specific reason why people discriminate each other, but
there are common ideas. The most likely reasons are because of Jealousy or hatred. Jealousy can cause people to start bullying and teasing. People tend to tease others if they feel that the other person has something better than them.
Jealousy can also cause hatred, and hatred leads to bullying. When I was in grade one, one of my friends had an “American girl” and brought it to school. At that age, all girls had wanted those dolls. One of the classmates got jealous
and stole it from her bag and broke it. She started teasing her that she still plays with dolls and continuously bullied her .The teacher soon found out and had stopped the bullying. This is why I believe that jealousy and hatred can
cause people to discriminate each other.
