Conclusion
This experiment demonstrated the process of cleaning up an oil spill. There was a simulation of a crude oil spill produced in a washbasin. We were able to use 4 items of our choice to do this. The dish soap was a cleaning product that was very successful in containing the oil. The sponge, being the best material to absorb the oil, can be used to absorb the oil in a real oil spill. My hypothesis was partly supported. The dish soap and the sponge did contain and absorb the oil the best, but the percentages I hypothesized was smaller than the estimated percentage in my final results. The dish soap contained 75% of all the oil and the sponge absorbed 70% of the oil. The total amounts that I hypothesized were 90% contained and 88% absorbed, while my results showed 100% contained and 98% absorbed. In all, the experiment was successful. However, our hypothesis was wrong.
